Letter: Win is not a mandate

Donald Trump did not win the most votes for president; he won by the outdated system of the Electoral College, which makes the votes of many Americans virtually meaningless and is badly outdated.

It’s a small wonder turnout is low.

For the GOP to now claim a “mandate” is an in-your-face attitude in view of the vote totals and can only serve to widen the split that exists between Americans. It’s a poor sign that any honest effort will be made to tame the ideologues who seem to have all been returned to Congress.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
