Men robbed after trying to meet up with female

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two robberies in which men were duped into thinking they were meeting up with a female they connected with online, but instead were robbed by a group of people.

At 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, a 23-year-old man arrived to meet a female he thought he had connected with on a website called meetme.com, according to the sheriff’s office. He agreed to meet her at Harry S Truman Elementary School, 4504 N.E. 42nd Ave., but when he got there, four or five males wearing masks “came out of the shadows and displayed hand guns and demanded all of the victim’s money,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

After robbing him, one suspect ordered the man to run, and he did. The man waited until Tuesday afternoon to report the robbery because he was embarrassed, the sheriff’s office said.

Then, at about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies responded to the elementary school again for a report that another 23-year-old man had been robbed there. This man had made arrangements to meet a female through the Tinder app, police said.

When he arrived at the school, he was confronted by four of five males armed with handguns. They took his 1995 Subaru Impreza and fled the area, according to the news release.

Police could not find any of the suspect near the scene, but they said they recovered the stolen vehicle about one mile east of the school.

Both men described the woman they intended to meet as between 17 and 23 years old. The males who robbed them were all wearing masks, but were described as being in their late teens to early 20s, police said. Four of the robbers had handguns and one had a rifle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Police said the incidents provide a good reminder to use caution when arranging meetings with strangers through social media.
