Letter: No reason to be happy

Sadly, Donald J. Trump is going to be our president, and I will find a way to cope with that. But I must object to the automatic normalization of a man whose casual bigotry, clear delight in inflaming his most hateful followers, and utter lack of understanding of how government works make him, in my view, unqualified for the job and unfit to lead.

One letter states that he is no more unqualified than President Obama was when he took office. Please — a constitutional law professor and senator as compared to a skilled salesman with no government experience at all? Some readers want to believe that the media have distorted his image and he is not as ignorant and boorish as he seems, but he has never hidden who he is.

When telling people to calm down, writers might want to remember that many more people throughout the country voted against him than for him. We don’t have to be happy.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
