Letter: Republicans may use their pens

The high-profile splintering has started:

1) On Oct. 9, The Columbian reported that congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, plans to cast a write-in ballot for Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., speaker of the House of Representatives (“Herrera Beutler rejects Trump”).

2) On Oct. 13, NPR reported that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., announced that he plans to cast a write-in ballot for Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.

Will this result in a massive number of write-in ballots on Election Day? Is this the start of a trend?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
