A backyard burn in Brush Prairie got out of control and burned about a half-acre of brush and a few trees Wednesday afternoon, and briefly threatened a home.

Firefighters were called to a fire near 9808 N.E. 148th St. at around 3:45 p.m.

Clark County Fire District 3 Chief Steve Wrightson said a resident’s backyard fire burned into some grass, blackberry bushes and other brush. The fire also torched a handful of trees, some fairly tall, Wrightson said.

“Had we some wind, we could have had a more serious problem,” he said.

The Vancouver Fire Department also responded, as did a crew from the state Department of Natural Resources.

A burn ban is in place in Clark County, and it’s set to end Sept. 30.

Wrightson said no citations were issued, but one could be pending.
