Cancer researcher will speak at luncheon

Vancouver – Dr. Gary Gilliland, president and director of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, will be the keynote speaker for the Columbia River Economic Development Council’s fall luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Warehouse 23, 100 Columbia St., Vancouver.

Gilliland will discuss the state of cancer treatment and innovations.

He has a background as a researcher and clinician specializing in blood cancers, such as leukemia, and is an adviser to Vice President Joe Biden’s Cancer Moonshot Initiative.

Fred Hutchinson is the first nationally designated cancer center in the Pacific Northwest and the region’s largest recipient of National Cancer Institute funding, according to a release from the council.
