In a back-and-forth game, Hockinson edged out Ridgefield 35-21 Friday night.

Canon Racanelli finished with 394 yards, the vast majority with his younger brother Sawyer on the receiving end.

Three plays into their second drive of the game, the two connected on a 79-yard touchdown pass. In the third quarter, Canon hit Sawyer for another score, this one for 83 yards.

However, Ridgefield continuously fought back. Jalen Williams ran 22 times in the second half for 99 yards and Jeremy Martin was able to find the end zone twice, one late in the fourth quarter to briefly take a 21-20 lead.

Moments later, Canon hit Bailey Jones for what proved to be the game-winning touchdown. Hockinson added another score, the defense forced a fumble and Sawyer picked off the Ridgefield quarterback to seal the victory.

Although Sawyer had never played receiver before this year, Canon believes he has taken on a leadership role on this Hawks squad: “He does a really good job of leading by example. Even kids older than him are looking up to him.”

While they both enjoy the connection on the field, Canon acknowledged that’s not what they’re after. “I just love winning. I don’t care who scores, as long as we get that W at the end of the game.”
