Senior wideout/linebacker Jake Klackner scored on both sides of the ball for the first time in his playing career, while running backs Kade Coons and Marcos Martinez combined for 158 yards rushing and a score to get Washougal its first win of the season.

“We just wanted to come out and run, pound it,” Klackner said of the Panthers’ game plan. “We just had too many mental mistakes.”

The Panthers managed to overcome 130 penalty yards — including 105 in the second half.

With the final outcome still in doubt around the minute mark, Klackner found a blitzing alley combined with an errant shotgun snap for which he outraced Monarch quarterback Will Burghardt for the recovery and score to seal a Panther victory.
