Prep highlights: Camas boys soccer team battles back to beat Heritage 5-3

The Camas boys soccer team used a second-half surge to open 4A Greater St. Helens League play with a 5-3 win over Heritage on Tuesday at Doc Harris Stadium.

Tied 2-2 at halftime, Heritage took a 3-2 lead in the second half before the Papermakers rallied back.

Camas took control with an own goal, a penalty kick by Danny Wing and a goal from Luke Schoene.

The Papermakers improved to 7-0-1 overall.

Heritage (7-2-1, 0-2-0) hung close with the defending co-league champions. Max Basarab scored two goals and Julian Bojorquez added another for the Timberwolves.

Stars of the day

• Nick Jennings, Skyview baseball, gave up three hits in five innings with seven strikeouts for the win and was 2 for 4 at the plate with two RBI as the Storm beat Battle Ground 9-1.

• Matt Henry, Hockinson baseball, went 3 for 5 with an RBI in a four-run sixth inning, and scored three runs to help the Hawks to a 9-6 win at Woodland.

• Kyle Peterson, Hockinson track and field, won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter races in a dual meet win over Mark Morris.

• Dakota Piovesan, Evergreen softball, gave up one run on one hit over five innings and went 2 for 2 at the plate in Evergreen’s 19-1 win over Hudson’s Bay.

• Sam Lauderdale, King’s Way Christian baseball, went 3 for 8 with a double and two RBI in the doubleheader after striking out 10 in 4 1/3 innings in the opener as the Knights swept Columbia-White Salmon 14-1 and 5-3.

• Abby Fischer, Skyview softball, went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and scored four runs in the Storm’s 14-4 win at Battle Ground.

• Lorena Villa, Heritage softball, went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs and an RBI in the Timberwolves’ 10-0 win over Washougal.

• Josey Lesmeister, Prairie softball, struck out 11 over six innings and went 2 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI in Prairie’s 17-0 win over Fort.

• Andrew McBee, Prairie soccer, scored the winning goal in the first minute of overtime as the Falcons held off Hudson’s Bay 2-1.

• Karsyn Rushing, Union girls golf, shot a 42 at The Cedars to lead Union to a 189-260 win over Battle Ground.

• Ellie Walker, Columbia River girls track and field, won the 100 hurdles in 14.96 seconds, which is the best mark in the state at Class 2A this season.

• Alyssa Chapin, Hockinson girls track and field, won the 200 meters, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles in meet against Mark Morris.
