Todd Parsons, a math teacher at Shahala Middle School, has received a national award for his work with the Mathematical Association of America American Mathematics Competitions program.

The Mathematical Association of America honored Parsons with the Edyth May Sliffe Award for Distinguished Teaching in Middle School and High School, recognizing his “commitment to encouraging young people to experience mathematics by teaching them to solve interesting problems,” according to his award letter.

Parsons will receive free registration to MAA MathFest in Denver in August 2018, an annual conference for math education and research. He and other award recipients will be recognized at the conference.

The award is given to math teachers whose students participate in the annual MAA competition.
