Save the Date: Summer is in full swing with outdoor music, movies

Grab a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy Friday Night Movies in various parks across the city of Vancouver this summer. There will be themed pre-movie activities starting at 7 p.m., with the free screenings kicking off at dusk, July 7 through Aug. 11. Events are susceptible to weather-related cancellations. The movie line up kicks off with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Movie,” rated PG-13, on July 7 at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site Parade Grounds. The next two movies will be “The Secret Life of Pets,” rated PG, on July 14 at LeRoy Haagen Memorial Park, Northeast Ninth Street, and “Moana,” rated PG, on July 21 at Marshall Park, 1015 E. Weird Beer on the River features more than 25 beer and cider breweries that took on the challenge to create and serve weird brews made from ingredients such as fruits, mushrooms, meat broth and more. Taste test more than 50 beers and vote for the weirdest from 4 to 10 p.m. July 7 and 2 to 10 p.m. July 8 at Marina Park, 24 S. A St., Washougal. This event is a fundraiser for CDM Caregiving Services, a local nonprofit agency serving the elderly and persons of all ages with disabilities in Clark County. Enjoy a weekend of local art, music, food and wine during the tenth annual Art and Wine Fair at English Estate Winery, 17806 S.E. First St., Vancouver. More than 40 area artists will sell their work on the historic farm estate, with live musical performances throughout. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 8 and noon to 6 p.m. July 9. Those ages 21 and older can taste wine in The Loafing Shed Tasting Room in the century-old barn, including the release of the 2016 Sauvignon Blanc. Pawchella will let the pets loose, metaphorically, during Concert for a Cause from 2 to 8 p.m. July 9. The event benefits multiple local charities. There will be an area for kids complete with bounce houses and a mini bicycle park. For the four-legged, there’s a doggie fun zone complete with obstacle course and pet-friendly activities. 5 Guys Named Moe headline the concert, along with opening acts Flexor T and Ty Curtis. Science on Tap Vancouver will let its audience in on the secrets of felines with the lecture “Decoding Cats.” Veterinarian and animal behaviorist Rolan Tripp will give a basic introduction to feline body language, both how cats “talk” to other cats and how they communicate with people. The lecture will analyze internet cat videos, and the fine line between quirky and crazy. It begins at 7 p.m. July 12 at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver. Battle Ground Harvest Days will kick off with the popular Harvest Nights Car Cruise, featuring more than 400 classic and custom cars at the Friday night gathering. Staging begins at 4:30 p.m. July 14, with cruising beginning at 6:30 p.m., with a burn out pit from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is free for spectators with a $20 registration fee for the car cruise, limited to vehicles 1978 or older. Saturday kicks off with the Harvest Days Grand Parade at 10 a.m. July 15, followed by a beer and wine garden, carnival rides and games, skateboard and BMX competition, a GeoCoin challenge, a kickball tournament and the annual talent show, all near the Battle Ground Community Center and Fairgrounds Park, 912 E. Main St., Battle Ground. The Vancouver Firefighter’s Union hosts Fire in the Park, an annual community and event and that runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 15 in Esther Short Park, West Eighth and Columbia streets in Vancouver. Explore fire truck displays, a kids fire safety zone including a firefighters challenge, safety and preparedness, and a teddy bear clinic. Admission is free. Three Brothers Vineyard & Winery will host Comedy In The Vineyard, an evening of comedy outdoors featuring Adam Richmond and Tyler Boeh. The performance will begin at 6 p.m. July 16 at the winery, 2411 N.E. 244th St., Ridgefield. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, with wine, water and soda available for purchase. Food will also be available for purchase, but food items can be brought in from outside.
