A 9-year-old Clark County boy escaped with only minor injuries Monday when the pickup he was driving crashed into a ditch in a rural area near Ridgefield, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy, who has Down syndrome and whose name was not released, was driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup south on Northwest 31st Avenue at about 7 p.m. when the vehicle ran off the road just south of Northwest 209th Street, according to a family member and CCSO Sgt. Fred Neiman.

Crews from Clark County Fire and Rescue responded to the scene at about 7:05 p.m. and found the boy in the upside-down pickup, according to Clark County Fire and Rescue spokesman Tim Dawdy.

Dawdy said the boy had only minor injuries, “but I’m sure his parents and members of the local constabulary want to have a talk with him.”
