East Vancouver — The Humane Society for Southwest Washington received a $1,750 grant from the Bissell Pet Foundation to help deal with overpopulation. The money will be used by low-income pet owners in the society’s Spay and Save programs. The nonprofit, which formed in 2011, looks to help reduce the number of animals in shelters and support organizations dedicated to the humane care and treatment of animals through pet adoption, spay/neuter programs, microchipping and foster care. “The greatest reward is to help shelters save thousands of animals’ lives each year by supporting their spay/neuter efforts,” Cathy Bissell, founder of the foundation, said in a release from the organization. “We hope to see the day when every pet has a loving, forever home.”
