Prep highlights: Connop brothers lead Columbia River soccer to 6-2 win

The Connop brothers put on a show Friday for the Columbia River boys soccer team.

Ryan Connop and Jake Connop each scored three goals in a 6-2 win over R.A. Long in Longview.

Ryan Connop, a junior forward, scored the River’s first goal. Jake Connop, a freshman forward, scored the next two as the Chieftains took a 3-2 lead into halftime.

Jake Connop also assisted on two of his brother’s goals. Ryan Connop had one assist.

The win gives River (5-0-1, 2-0) an early lead in the 2A Greater St. Helens League.

R.A. Long, which placed second in league last year and reached the state playoffs, fell to 1-1 in league play.

Stars of the day

• Brannon Meriwether, King’s Way Christian baseball: Drove in five runs in a win over Washougal.

• Max Vasko, Heritage boys soccer, scored three goals in Heritage’s 6-0 win over Hudson’s Bay.

• Max Basarab, Heritage boys soccer, had two goals and two assists vs. Bay.

• Dakota Mason, Columbia River baseball, went 2 for 3 with a triple, two runs, pitched two innings with four strikeouts in a 5-2 win over Tigard (Ore.).

• Kevin Terhorst, Woodland boys soccer, scored two goals in the Beavers’ 4-2 win over Washougal.
