Law officers arrested six people on suspicion of driving while impaired Friday, during special emphasis patrols that put extra officers on the road to look for motorists driving under the influence.

According to the Vancouver Police Department, officers also made 10 other arrests, gave 19 citations and 40 warnings. The officers, from the Vancouver, Battle Ground and Washougal police departments, made 68 total contacts.

The extra officer hours for the patrols were paid for through a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

The Vancouver police’s Neighbors on Watch volunteers provided extra eyes and ears for officers. At one point Friday evening, volunteers saw a driver dump beer out of his vehicle and drive erratically, according to police.

The volunteers contacted an officer, who caught up with the driver and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence.
