No one was hurt when a fire ripped through a travel trailer parked in east Vancouver late Saturday afternoon.

Lead Deputy Vancouver Fire Marshal Chad Lawry said the lone occupant of the 27-foot trailer, parked at 3413 N.E. 138th Ave., in the Parkrose neighborhood, was preparing to cook a meal around 4:30 p.m. The trailer was being used as a temporary dwelling.

The stove’s gas pilot had been off, Lawry said, and the occupant turned on all the burners and ignited the gas to cook.
Lawry said that caused a flash of fire that ignited combustible material on the counter, and the fire quickly spread to the rest of the trailer.

No one was hurt, Lawry said.

The fire did about $32,000 in damage to the trailer and its contents. The trailer, he said, was purchased about three months ago.

The Red Cross responded to assist the lone occupant.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office reminded residents to keep combustible materials at least 18 inches away from cooking surfaces.
