Police arrested a domestic violence suspect after a seven-hour standoff in Vancouver’s Landover-Sharmel neighborhood Friday morning.

Officers were called to a residence at 2408 N.E. 130th Ave. about 11:30 p.m. Thursday for a report that a man with a no-contact order was at his ex-wife’s house, calling her and blocking her from leaving, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

The woman escaped, but the man barricaded himself in the home, Kapp said.

For about three hours, patrol officers attempted to get the man out of the residence through loud hailing and negotiation, Kapp said. Because he had potential access to a firearm in the home, officers called for help from the regional SWAT team.

After using a chemical agent to get the man to comply, officers made entry to the house and detained the man at about 7 a.m., Kapp said.

No one was injured, Kapp said.

The man, identified by police as 34-year-old Adam V. Mlady, was interviewed and booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence, residential burglary, harassment, stalking and violation of a protection order, Kapp said.
