A Vancouver woman was hospitalized Sunday after her SUV was rear-ended while trying to merge onto Northeast 99th Street from Interstate 5, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The agency said Vanatria Y. Marshall, 52, was heading north on the highway before 4 p.m. when she took the exit ramp to 99th Street. She stopped for the traffic light then began to merge, then stopped again for traffic ahead.

That’s when Ridgefield’s Porfirio R. Hernandez, 57, struck the rear of her SUV, troopers said.

Marshall was hurt and taken to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. Her condition was not available.

The state patrol blamed the crash on inattention on Hernandez’s part, and he was cited for following too close and not having insurance.
