Letter: Hope for stalemate with N. Korea

By Walt Boyd, Camas

This is in response to the Oct. 1 letter “Trump unfairly criticized.”

Having served in Korea during the war, I think the letter writer would be further educated about the war by reading about the Korean Armistice Agreement on Wikipedia.

Some corrections to his comments: President Truman didn’t sign the armistice. It was signed in July 1953, by Lt. Gen. Harrison for the United Nations, and a North Korean general for North Korea and China. This was an armistice which is a cease-fire between military forces rather than between governments. President Eisenhower, elected in November 1952, was president.

Evidently, the writer’s solution to the problem is World War III. There will be a lot of talk and posturing but I believe that, in the end, it will continue to be a stalemate.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
