With the help of a rescue climbing team, officials pulled a man stuck on a perch above Dog Creek Falls back to safety Thursday.

According to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a phone call from Ken Alexander of Portland around 1:30 p.m., saying his friend, Wade Nelson, also of Portland, was unable to descend from a spot over the falls.

Alexander said he and Nelson decided earlier in the day to climb to the top of Dog Creek Falls, west of White Salmon. They made it, but Nelson couldn’t make it back down, and they were worried he wouldn’t be able to without getting hurt.

There’s no trail system to climb the falls, the sheriff’s office noted.

A deputy and a ropes team from Skamania County EMS, along with firefighters from Skamania Fire District 1 and a Clark County technical rescue team, responded to get Nelson down.

He was down and back with his friend 2 1/2 hours later, the sheriff’s office said, and no one was hurt.
