A 53-year-old man appeared in Clark County Superior Court on Wednesday facing allegations that he threatened people with a rock in a sock and damaged property.

Jamie Hernandez, no middle initial or place of residence identified in court documents, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of second-degree assault, malicious mischief and harassment.

Judge Daniel Stahnke set Hernandez’s bail at $50,000.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a Vancouver police officer responded to a report of malicious mischief shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday on the 6900 block of Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard.

Multiple victims had called 911 and said a man, later identified as Hernandez, was high on methamphetamine and “running through the middle of the road with a rock in a sock swinging it toward them and also throwing rocks into cars,” the affidavit says.

Two people reported serious injuries, such as cuts to their faces, caused by the shattering glass of car windows, according to the affidavit.

The officer arrived and spotted Hernandez with the makeshift weapon in his hand, yelling into the air, according to the affidavit. Multiple victims fingered Hernandez as the assailant at the scene.

Police estimated that Hernandez caused about $7,500 in property damage.
