‘Don’t climb up there’: Girl pushed from Moulton Falls bridge recovering at hospital

Jordan Holgerson, 16, said she had never jumped from the bridge at Moulton Falls Regional Park, and after being pushed off its edge and injured as a result, she doesn’t plan to anytime in the future.

“I just, you know, don’t suggest going up to a 60-foot bridge. Don’t climb up there,” Holgerson said during a press conference at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center on Thursday afternoon.

Holgerson is recovering at the hospital surrounded by friends and family.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies are investigating the incident.

Holgerson was advised by the sheriff’s office to decline answering specific questions about the fall, such as who she was with at the time or identifying the person who pushed her, as it may compromise the investigation and have legal ramifications.

Clark County Fire District 13 Chief Sean Ford told The Columbian on Wednesday that ambulance crews responded to Moulton Falls park around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. Kids were horsing around and jumping off the bridge, and a girl, later identified as Holgerson, was injured.

Tolling twist: Oregon might toll all Portland area freeways

Oregon transportation officials confirmed Thursday that they will abide by a committee’s recommendation and not immediately pursue tolling on Interstates 5 and 205 from the Washington border.

But they will consider imposing tolls on all Portland-area freeways.
The news came in a letter Thursday to Sen. Patty Murray, who had written to Oregon Gov. Kate Brown asking her to ensure that the Oregon Transportation Commission respect a recommendation made by the Portland Region Value Pricing Advisory Committee.Writing on Brown’s behalf, transportation officials affirmed that the transportation commission will follow through with the committee’s recommendation.
It also disclosed that the commission plans to direct the Oregon Department of Transportation to conduct a feasibility analysis of adding congestion pricing to all freeways in the Portland metro area.

Daddy D’s barbecue comes to Woodland

WOODLAND — Before Donnie Vercher could open his hole-in-the-wall barbecue restaurant, he had to explain what exactly a hole-in-the-wall was.

“Back home, they’re always attached to something,” said Vercher, 54, of Battle Ground. “I had to explain that when I wanted to open Daddy D’s. For me, it’s all about customer service and food. I really care about the product. We don’t serve anything if it’s not ready. We make everything on-site from scratch.”
Vercher’s cooking requires “a lot of love and patience.”
His career path has followed the same recipe, taking him from the woods of Louisiana to a Vancouver street corner to a burgeoning barbecue empire centered on the back of a gas station.

Long wins national backing in race against Herrera Beutler

About 2,200 ballots are still left to count in Clark County from Tuesday’s primary, but the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is already throwing support behind Carolyn Long.

Long is trailing Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, with 35.33 percent of the vote to Herrera Beutler’s 42.13, but winning in Clark County by 0.54 percent.

Long has been added the national organization’s Red to Blue program, joining 66 other candidates highlighted for their potential to challenge incumbents. Herrera Beutler is seeking her fifth term.

The program provides candidates with fundraising and organizational support to help flip targeted districts. The 3rd Congressional District was first targeted by the DCCC in March 2017.
