Letter: Tax cuts are beneficial

I watched the Carolyn Long and Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler debate (“3rd District, first debate,” The Columbian, Aug. 9). I’m disappointed with Long for regurgitating Democratic talking points — that federal tax cuts only go to the rich and not “working-class families.” With 90 percent of Americans receiving a tax cut, that means either we’re all rich and don’t even know it, or the Democrats want to undermine this accomplishment because they’re tired of serving in the minority. Facts matter. Compare your pay stubs to those from a year ago. Or, when tax season comes, look at your returns.

I appreciate that our congresswoman voted for the tax cuts. It allows me and my family to keep more of our money and gives us flexibility to plan for the future.
