The Salvation Army’s Family Services Center in the Walnut Grove area has altered its hours and the way it gives food to clients.

Instead of premade food boxes, families can now pick out items and get more of the food that they want, said Beth Kennard, director of Family Services. Hours for the pantry, at 7509 N.E. 47th Ave., have changed to 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The clothing closet is now open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“We’re really excited about these changes and so far clients seem to love it,” Kennard said.

The local Salvation Army implemented the changes in advance of eventually moving the Family Services Center to its Northeast 112th Avenue campus.

Last month, the pantry gave out 905 food boxes and has served nearly 10,000 families since October.
