The Dec. 2 front-page story “Clark County proponents say ‘yea’ to ranked-choice voting” belies the political activism behind this new method of voting. It is the first I’d heard of it but seems there is a movement already underway to push legislators in this direction.
The stated goal of “proponents” is that the voting public have “more” options; ironically those options will certainly benefit one party over another. It is easy to assume, since our state is almost exclusively a blue state, which party or activists are pushing this new method of voting. Only at the end of the article does the reporter give us a hint that these are not merely “proponents” but, in fact, agenda-driven political activists. The reporter quotes an example from “proponents” of marriage equality activists who pushed and introduced legislation 30 times before the House and Senate approved same-sex marriage in 2012.
It’s disheartening to know those who snivel over results of some elections are ever ready to find other ways to secure their own desired political electoral results.
