Letter: Herrera Beutler should lend support

By Willie Dickerson, Snohomish

Great to see new members getting together across party lines to discuss issues, in search of common ground. (“Can female lawmakers clean House of its gridlock?” by Kathleen Parker, The Columbian, Nov. 29).

Perhaps a more compassionate America will result, ensuring basic needs are met for all, even better to provide ladders out of poverty, with a transition to self-sufficiency with living-wage jobs. One bipartisan bill, the Reach Every Mother and Child Act, has over 200 members of the House from both parties as co-sponsors. It would be great to see Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, join the rest of Washington’s House delegation as a co-sponsor on this bill introduced by fellow Republican Rep. Dave Reichert, Auburn.

It’s a good time for citizen calls or emails to encourage her support of this life-saving bill. With 15,000 children under 5 and over 300 mothers dying every day in our world, there is a real need for our help. Our calls and letters can help Herrera Beutler make the move to support this bill.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
