Letter: Killing sea lions not the answer

I am tired of hearing people sing the praises of Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, over saving the salmon by passing a bill to allow sea lions to be shot. Those poor animals are just trying to live as they were put here to do. Let there blood be on her hands.

At the same time she was helping sponsor a bill with Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Spokane, and Dan Newhouse, R-Sunnyside, to override a court order that helps save millions of salmon by spilling more water over the dams from April to mid-June. This court order was reaffirmed by an appeals court. All the evidence was presented to the courts and the message was dire: the salmon are in danger, as well as orcas in Puget Sound and all other life dependant on the balance.

The water is disappearing because the snowpack is disappearing (global warming). Bringing the salmon runs back to their old capacity would be way more valuable than the loss of corporate farms along the Snake River; not to mention the impact to the ecosystem. Perhaps killing these sea lions will let Herrera Beutler sleep better at night.
