Prairie High School to induct Phil Phimister into hall of fame

Over a 31-year coaching career at Prairie High School, Phil Phimister inspired thousands of track and cross country athletes.

Friday, the school will formally honor one of its longest-tenured and most influential coaches. Phimister will be inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame ahead of Friday’s boys basketball game against Hudson’s Bay.
A ceremony honoring Phimister, who died in August at 64, will begin at 6:45 p.m.

Amy Campbell, one of Phimister’s two daughters, told The Columbian in August that coaching track and cross country was her father’s passion.

“Coaching to my dad was a holistic thing,” she said. “I’m touched by the messages from parents who say my dad cared about their child as a whole, and that’s what made them a great runner.”
