Letter: Volunteers help preserve history

On behalf of the North Clark Historical Museum, I would like to thank The Columbian for its excellent coverage of the dedication of our new steam donkey exhibit (“Whistle punks, rejoice!,” June 24).

The article and the June 30 “Cheers & Jeers” editorial comment on the event focused on contributions by Leo Bethje and Mike Rotschy but made no mention of the third volunteer we honored during the dedication. Frank Emerick is a retired Forest Service engineer who was a key member of the volunteers who developed the exhibit. Emerick was involved in every step of the exhibit design and completion. We owe a debt of gratitude to Emerick, Bethje and Rotschy and all the volunteers who helped the museum preserve this piece of local history.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
