Scotts Miracle-Gro subsidiary Hawthorne Gardening Co. has secured its lease at the Port of Vancouver, cementing more investment in its new Vancouver operations.

The company will take over nearly 125,000 square feet of space for five years and $3 million total, plus taxes. The lease can be extended for a maximum of six more years, as well.

Port of Vancouver commissioners approved the lease unanimously Tuesday, securing the first tenant at its newly built Centennial Industrial Building.

Signing the lease plants more Hawthorne operations in Vancouver. Earlier this month, Scotts paid $450 million to absorb the local horticulture supplies firm Sunlight Supply.

Hawthorne signaled to port officials it plans on growing. It plans to bring on 50 workers to staff the new location, a few blocks south from the headquarters it recently acquired from Sunlight Supply.

Workers at the new facility will make plastic containers and air filters used in many industries, including indoor and urban gardening, according to the port.
