County schools deal with 3 incidents involving threats

Three incidents at Clark County high schools in a little more than a week, two of which resulted in criminal charges against teenagers, involved threats of gunfire or the use of a pellet gun.

The schools involved were Camas High School, Columbia River High School and Hudson’s Bay High School.

Camas High School sent a notice Monday informing parents that a student had made threats against the school.

Troopers target license cheats at two Vancouver schools

Washington State Patrol placed a team of troopers outside two Vancouver schools Monday morning to catch drivers who haven’t registered their vehicles in the state, thereby avoiding taxes that help pay for education.

“The Legislature has identified this as a concern, going as far as funding a specialized squad of troopers to address it,” said Trooper Will Finn. “We want compliance. Residents pay for these schools, and the people dropping off their kids obviously live here and need to pay their share of taxes.”

Spokane-based Rosauers grocery planned for Ridgefield development

RIDGEFIELD — Ridgefield is finally getting a full-service grocery store.

Rosauers Supermarket, a chain of grocery stores based in Spokane, will anchor an upcoming plaza at the Port of Ridgefield’s Discovery Ridge property at 45th Avenue and Pioneer Street.

Port of Ridgefield commissioners voted unanimously Wednesday in favor of a purchase-and-sale agreement of the property, and Port CEO Brent Grening revealed news that a supermarket was coming to town.

DSHS pays $3.1 million after placing Vancouver girl with known rapist

The former foster parents of a Vancouver girl who was taken from their care by the Washington Department of Social and Health Services and placed with her biological father — a convicted child rapist who then sexually abused her for years — have settled a lawsuit against the agency for $3.1 million.

Records filed in Clark County Superior Court show that the Vancouver couple and DSHS reached the settlement last month.

The foster parents, who have since adopted the girl, say all of the money will go toward her care, with court oversight.
