Prep roundup: Skyview soccer knocks off defending champs

In his first varsity start, sophomore Jacob Thompson scored two goals to help give the Skyview boys soccer team a 3-1 season-opening win over Class 4A state champion Todd Beamer on Saturday at Kiggins Bowl.

Thompson scored in the first half to give Skyview a 1-0 lead. Wyatt Stallman assisted on the play.

Stephen Kiraly scored an unassisted goal in the second half. Thompson rounded out the scoring with a goal assisted by Preston Eversaul.

Skyview goalkeepers Dylan Debaldo and Alex Hood combined for eight saves.

• Elijah Lavin and Saul Castenada, Evergreen boys soccer, each scored in a 2-1 win over Sunnyside as the Plainsmen improved to 2-0.

• Jose Artunes, Battle Ground boys soccer, scored two goals in a 3-2 win over La Center.

• Brady Burns, Woodland baseball, had a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh as the Beavers rallied for a 6-5 win over La Center.

• Wyatt Autrey, Woodland baseball, went 2 for 4 with an RBI single to help the Beavers overcome a 4-0 deficit against La Center.

• Saige Keep, La Center baseball, went 3 for 4 with two triples, two runs scored and a stolen base in a 6-5 loss to Woodland.

• Jack Ossenkop, La Center baseball, went 2 for 3 with a run, an RBI and three stolen bases against Woodland.

• Preston Thornton, Washougal baseball, went 3 for 3 with two doubles, an RBI and a stolen base in a 9-3 loss to Columbia-White Salmon. Also went 2 for 4 in a 6-5 win over Fort Vancouver at the Max Beatty Tournament at Fort.

• Nole Thompson, Washougal baseball, went 1 for 4, including a two-RBI single in a four-run fifth inning as the Panthers beat Fort Vancouver 6-5.

• Tyler Runkle, Fort Vancouver baseball, went 3 for 4 with a triple in the Trappers’ 10-1 win over Ilwaco. Also went 2 for 4 with two runs in a 6-5 loss to Washougal.

• Nick Laurenza, Fort Vancouver baseball, went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBI in a 10-1 win over Ilwaco. Went 1 for 3 with an RBI in a 6-5 loss to Washougal.

• Jensen Bowen, Union baseball, went 2 for 4 with a run in a 7-4 loss to Rogers of Puyallup.

• Kory Shaw, Battle Ground baseball, went a combined 2 for 5 in games against Federal Way and Puyallup.
