Fircrest — Washington State University Extension’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education’s Harvest of the Month program was at Fircrest Elementary School this month, and challenged the students to do some re-branding. Students were asked to come up with new names for fruits and vegetables to help learn about local ingredients. The winners were treated to a fruit and veggie party with the principal, as well as having their creative names highlighted on the school menu and having their fruits and vegetables showcased on posters throughout the school. Some of the names suggested by students were “cheery tomatoes” for cherry tomatoes, “snowman noses” for carrots, “Broc-asaurous Rex” for broccoli, “cutecumber” for cucumbers and “snapple bapple apple” for apples.
