The Clark County Sheriff’s Office headquarters building in downtown Vancouver is closed for a fire call, according to the office.

The agency said around 1:30 p.m. that there was a “fire incident” in the building and the facility would remain closed until further notice.

The Vancouver Fire Department was on scene and investigating.

Fire department spokesman Joe Spatz said someone in the building smelled smoke, prompting the call. An engine company arrived, then called another for help. Although the responding firefighters didn’t find any smoke inside, he said, others did spot light smoke coming from an exterior vent, for a time.

Maintenance crews and firefighters were still looking for a source of the problem shortly after 2:10 p.m., Spatz said, adding there was no indication the issue, whatever it is, is especially significant.

“They’re still kind of in investigation mode down there,” he said.
