Prep highlights: Columbia River soccer improves to 2-0 in league

David Gonzalez Martinez made five second-half saves, including a penalty kick, as the Columbia River boys soccer team beat R.A. Long 2-1 to improve to 2-0 in the 2A Greater St. Helens League on Friday.

Ryan Connop and Trey Johnson scored goals for the Chieftains. Johnson’s goal put River ahead with 15 minutes left in the match.

Stars of the day

• Brennan Lamoreaux, Woodland boys soccer, scored the eventual winning goal on a free kick from 20 yards in a 2-1 win over Washougal.

• Conor Flolo, Camas boys soccer, had two assists in a 4-1 win over Mountain View in which four different Papermakers scored.

• Max Wright, Washougal boys soccer, the freshman goalkeeper had seven saves, including many spectacular ones, to keep the Panthers close in a 2-1 loss to Woodland.

• Jacob Thompson, Skyview boys soccer, had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Kelso as the Storm improved to 6-1-1.
