Prep Highlights: Fort baseball opens 3A GSHL play with win

Nick Laurenza went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI to lead the Fort Vancouver baseball team to a 13-5 win over Hudson’s Bay on Tuesday at Propstra Stadium.

The Trappers (2-1) scored nine runs in the fifth inning to take a 13-4 lead in the 3A Greater St. Helens League opener for both teams.

Justin Vernon also went 3 for 4 with two RBI for Fort. Joey Endonino went 2 for 3 with two RBI. Evan Siegel struck out six batters in 5 2/3 innings for the win.

Alan Merrill went 3 for 4 with a double and Kaden Grooms went 2 for 3 for Hudson’s Bay (1-0, 2-3)

Stars of the day

• Caleb Sagert, Prairie track and field, won the 110 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles and the pole vault in a dual meet against Hudson’s Bay.

• Angel Terry, Hudson’s Bay track and field, won the shot put and discus in a dual meet against Prairie.

• Valerie Schmidt, Prairie track and field, won the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump in a dual meet against Hudson’s Bay. Her hurdles times of 16.30 seconds and 48.20 seconds are sixth best in 3A statewide.

• Anna Harrison, Fort Vancouver track and field, won the 800 and 1,600 meters against Kelso. Her 1,600 time of 5 minutes, 21.43 seconds ranks No. 10 in 3A.

• Delainey Patterson, Prairie girls golf, was medalist with a 3-over-par 38 at Lewis River as the Falcons beat Woodland 179-201.

• Dakota Piovesan, Evergreen softball, went 2 for 3 with a home run in a 13-12 non-league loss to R.A. Long.

• Hunter Leach, La Center boys soccer, had a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over King’s Way Christian.

• Daniel Selleshiy, Heritage boys soccer, had two goals and one assist in a 5-1 win over Kelso.
