A Vancouver woman accused of stabbing her former boyfriend, severing an artery in his arm, was sentenced Friday to nearly two years in prison.

Nicole J. Nebeker, 34, pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree domestic violence assault and was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment.

Senior Deputy Prosecutor James Smith said Nebeker and the victim have children together, and their volatile relationship was deteriorating on the day of the assault.

Nebeker was arrested in September on suspicion of first-degree assault in connection with the incident in Ridgefield.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies were called Sept. 1 to the 700 block of North Main Avenue, and upon arrival, found the victim sitting by his driveway. He was holding a blood-soaked towel on his upper left arm and told deputies Nebeker had just stabbed him, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The victim said he had not spoken to Nebeker for months, but she came to his residence unannounced that day. She reportedly wanted to see their children. He thought something was off, however, and said Nebeker was acting odd so he began video recording her with his cellphone, the affidavit states.

They started to argue over child custody issues, and he asked her to leave. The situation escalated.

Nebeker eventually started to walk away, as they continued to argue, and was about 50 feet down the street when she turned and charged at him. She pulled the knife out of the sheath on her side and repeatedly screamed, “I’m going to (expletive) kill you,” as she stabbed the victim in the arm, the affidavit states.

Deputies said video of the attack shows Nebeker stabbing at the victim several times. She then fled the scene, court records say.

Smith said the attack did not cause permanent damage to the man’s arm. The victim does not want contact with Nebeker, he said. The prosecutor added that Nebeker has taken responsibility for her actions, and he thought the case had an appropriate outcome.

Defense attorney Shon Bogar said his client never denied what happened, and she was prepared to accept the judgement.

Nebeker apologized for her actions.

“Hopefully, I can move forward with my life,” she said.
