A Vancouver man was killed Sunday morning when his motorhome lost control, crashed and caught fire on state Highway 14 in Skamania County east of Washougal.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Kenneth D. Karschney, 66, was driving east about 7 miles east of Washougal, when, around 11 a.m., he lost control of his 1998 Ford Econoline motorhome.

The vehicle went off the right side of the road, down an embankment and into a tree, state troopers said.

Shortly after impact, the vehicle caught fire and grew fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters contained the flames, and other responders pronounced Karschney dead at the scene.

The state patrol said the crash’s cause was under investigation.
