Washington State Patrol and Portland Police Bureau officers are investigating an injury crash Tuesday night on the Interstate 5 Bridge.

Both agencies were dispatched around 10:45 p.m. to the southbound lanes of the freeway, according to a PPB news release.

The officers and medics who responded to the scene found a man lying on the roadway, suffering from serious injuries, police said. He was taken to a hospital with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries.

Law enforcement has not identified the man, whose injuries prompted a traffic investigation being handled by the PPB Major Crash Team.

A preliminary investigation suggests the man was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle on the southbound lanes of the freeway when he crashed into a Nissan Sentra that had slowed down due to construction zone traffic congestion. The area where the crash happened had been reduced to a single lane because of the construction.

The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with police. There have been no citations or arrests, police said.

At this time, intoxication is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information about the crash should contact Portland Officer Garrett Dow at 503-823-5070 or Garrett.Dow@portlandoregon.gov.
