A man who crashed his motorcycle last week on the Interstate 5 Bridge has died from his injuries, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

The bureau also identified the motorcyclist as 55-year-old Michael D. Dallasta of Vancouver.

Dallasta “has died at an area hospital while receiving treatment for injuries suffered during the traffic crash,” police said.

Washington State Patrol troopers and Portland police were dispatched about 10:45 p.m. Oct. 2 to the southbound lanes of I-5.

The officers and medics who responded to the scene found Dallasta lying on the freeway with life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Dallasta was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the southbound lanes when he crashed into a Nissan Sentra that had slowed for traffic congestion in a construction zone. The area where the crash happened was reduced to a single lane because of roadwork, police said in a news release.

The driver of the Nissan stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

“There have been no citations issued or arrests made as a result of this investigation at this time,” police said Friday.

Police previously noted intoxication was thought to be a factor in the crash.

Investigators believe there are witnesses to the crash who they haven’t spoken with yet. Anyone with information about the crash should contact Portland police Officer Garrett Dow at 503-823-5070 or Garrett.Dow@portlandoregon.gov.
