Letter: Obama’s endorsements not useful

In “Carolyn Long gets Obama endorsement” (Oct. 2, The Columbian), it is reported that Carolyn Long, Democratic challenger for Washington’s 3rd Congressional District, is grateful to have former President Obama’s endorsement in November’s election against the incumbent, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground. Obama also endorsed Democratic candidate Lisa Brown, who is challenging the incumbent Republican congresswoman in the 5th District. I expect that both Long and Brown are aware that President Trump won more votes in their districts in 2016: 49 percent to 43 percent in the 3rd, and 52 percent to 39 percent in the 5th. Perhaps an endorsement from Obama is not exactly what they need to bolster their campaigns!
