Vancouver firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a garage fire early Saturday morning, preventing damage to the rest of a Mill Plain area home.

Vancouver Fire Department crews were dispatched about 3:30 a.m. to the 17700 block of Northeast 38th Way for the report of a residential structure fire.

The first crew to arrive at the scene found a fire burning inside the garage of a two-story home, said Cpt. Dave James.

Firefighters cut open the garage door and doused the flames with a single waterline. The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes, James said.

Damage caused by the fire was limited to items in the garage. Responders stopped the fire before it spread to the home’s interior.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

A total of 16 firefighters helped with the response.
