Ph.D. candidate to tell of journey from prison

Noel Vest, a doctoral candidate at Washington State University’s main Pullman campus, will speak in Vancouver next week about his experience as a recovering drug addict and former convict.

Vest, who is slated to attend Stanford University on a postdoctoral fellowship, is a Vancouver native who “(succumbed) to a substance use disorder in his mid-20s,” according to a press release. He also served a prison sentence in Nevada.

Noel hopes sharing his 17-year journey will inspire others coming out of prison to seek a career and better life through higher education.

Noel will speak at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Dengerink Administration Building at the WSU Vancouver campus, located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave.
