Prep Highlights: Skyview baseball secures No. 2 seed

Storm beat No. 3 seed Union 6-1 in 4A GSHL finale

Ryan Pitts’ complete-game pitching performance Tuesday lifted Skyview to a 6-1 baseball victory over Union to snag the 4A Greater St. Helens League’s No. 2 seed into next week’s bi-district tournament.

Pitts allowed one earned run on seven hits and struck out eight pitching all seven innings to earn the win. He also went 1 for 2 with a run scored.

Union, getting two hits apiece from Carter Sutton and Jordan Head, takes the No. 3 playoff seed. Both teams open bi-district tournament play needing to win at least two games to earn a state regional berth.

Micah Baylous and Cooper Barnum each had two hits and combined for five RBI for the Storm.

Stars of the day

• Kaila Bonawitz, Mountain View girls golf, was the low golfer for the Thunder with a 46 at Three Rivers as Mountain View beat Kelso and wrapped up the 3A GSHL title.

• Russell Fearington, Evergreen baseball, was 3 for 4 with a double, a home run and three RBI in the Plainsmen’s 10-0 win over Fort Vancouver.

• Kiana Coburn, Fort Vancouver golf, shot a 1-over-par 36 to earn medalist honors in a match with Evergreen at Fairway Village.

• Kyla Thomas, Skyview golf, shot a 5-over 41 for the low round at Club Green Meadows against Heritage.

• Alan Merrill, Hudson’s Bay baseball, went 1 for 4 with a two-run double and a stolen base in an 8-4 win over Prairie.

• Grant Heiser, Camas baseball, went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI in the Papermakers’ 3-0 win over Battle Ground.

• Emma Cox, Camas girls golf, shot an even-par 35 for medalist honors as the Papermakers beat Union on the Camas Meadows back 9.

• Darius Dancel, Prairie boys track and field, won the 100 (11.1), long jump (21-8) and high jump (6-2) in the Falcons’ dual-meet win over Kelso to complete the league season undefeated.

• Mitchell Allison, Mountain View baseball, went 3 for 4 with a double, triple, and two RBI in a league win over Kelso.

• Elijah Lavin, Evergreen boys soccer, scored a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Fort Vancouver.

• Nathan Purvis, Mountain View boys soccer, scored two goals in a 3-2 league win over Kelso.

• Dauda Woodruff, Camas boys soccer, scored two goals in the Papermakers’ playoff-clinching 3-0 win over Battle Ground.

• David Klimovich, Prairie soccer, scored two goals in a 6-0 win over Hudson’s Bay as the Falcons wrapped up the 3A GSHL’s No. 2 seed to bi-districts.

• Brandon Connell, Stevenson baseball, struck out 12 in a win over league champion Columbia-White Salmon and combined for four hits on the day in a doubleheader split.

• Jake Connop and Aaron Espinosa, Columbia River boys soccer, each scored hat tricks in a 7-0 win over Ridgefield.

• Bryce Dodge, King’s Way Christian baseball, combined for five hits, eight RBI and six stolen bases in a doubleheader sweep of Castle Rock.

• Jackson Finn, Woodland boys soccer, assisted all four goals in a 4-0 league win over Hockinson.
