Members of the Vancouver Fire Department are organizing a longtime annual fundraiser for people with muscular dystrophy.

The Fill the Boot fundraiser is slated for noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 5 and Sept. 6 at Northeast Highway 99 and Northeast 78th Street, according to a news release from the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Firefighters will canvass streets and storefronts in the area asking pedestrians, motorists and customers to place donations in an in-hand boot.

Chuck’s Produce will provide snacks, refreshments and dinner to volunteers, according to the news release.

The International Association of Firefighters has been raising money to support those with the disease since 1954 and has collected more than $650 million in donations to date, the news release said.
