I was a registered Republican for 44 years and voted in nearly every election. For several years I was discouraged by the overly partisan politics of both parties. Two years ago, I was sufficiently disgusted that I became an independent. I’m writing to encourage Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, to start acting like a “statesperson.”
The Columbian has quoted President Trump’s statements objecting about the impeachment process. Those statements make you sound like either another party hack who has swallowed the party Kool-Aid, or an actual shill for the party. By his decision to conform to the dictates of the Republican Party by condemning the investigatory process, he is abandoning his post.
It’s hard to be a person of principle and good judgment when Congresswoman Herrera Beutler is still complaining that the impeachment process is not perfect. All of us who care about politics are smart enough to know that the saying “you don’t want to watch the sausage being made” — so enough about the imperfect process. Please make a decision and commitment to be the statesperson we need: start telling everyone that you will listen to the facts and arguments and then you will make a decision that puts America first.
