Clark County Sheriff’s Office ‘will adhere to’ I-1639

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has announced that it will enforce a controversial gun-control measure handily passed by voters last November.

The announcement came Saturday morning in a brief statement posted to Facebook that noted that while Initiative 1639 was being challenged in court, the sheriff’s office intended to heed the new law for now.

Vancouver officer who fired weapon in chase, shooting identified

The Vancouver Police Department has identified the officer who fired his weapon and was injured in a Tuesday night police chase and gun battle from Vancouver to Portland.

Vancouver police Officer James Porter, 28, fired his weapon during the chase and was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to a department press release. He was placed on critical incident leave, standard department protocol in an officer-involved shooting, the press release said.

Clark County Public Health fighting measles outbreak, misinformation

Since the measles outbreak began about a month ago, Kaley McLachlan-Burton has developed a routine.

She returns home from work, lays on the floor and yells: “Puppy pile.” Her Chihuahua mixes, Birdie and Bobby, race to envelop her.

“That’s been a nice release to go home at night and play with dogs,” said McLachlan-Burton, an environmental outreach specialist with Clark County Public Health.

The 192-unit K West Apartments in central Vancouver is beginning to lease up. It’s the largest income-restricted project built in response to Clark County’s lack of affordable housing.
