A registered sex offender accused of possessing hundreds of images of child pornography made his first appearance Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court.

Patrick Wayne Martin, 37, of Vancouver is facing six counts of first-degree possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Judge Robert Lewis set his bail at $50,000.

The Vancouver Police Department Digital Evidence Cybercrime Unit began investigating Martin, who was previously convicted for similar crimes, in July, according to an affidavit of probable cause. Around that time, Martin failed a scheduled polygraph test and admitted to unauthorized internet use, according to the affidavit.

As Martin was being arrested on suspicion of conditional release violations, a state Department of Corrections case officer located a flash drive and memory card on him, according to the affidavit. A Vancouver police detective later accessed a computer and cellphone from Martin through a search warrant, the affidavit said.

Investigators found 359 images and video of child pornography, according to the affidavit. The images, which appeared to be still shots from a video, feature a girl as young as 6 years old engaging in sex acts with an adult man, the affidavit said.

Martin will be arraigned March 1, court records show.
