A man was arrested Monday after allegedly fleeing police in a stolen U-Haul, hitting spike strips and eventually abandoning the truck.
Police first spotted the truck, which was stolen out of Portland, on Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard shortly before 1:30 p.m. and attempted to stop it near Brandt Road, Vancouver Police Sgt. McAvoy Shipp said. During the stop though, the driver of the U-Haul drove away westbound and hit nearby spike strips that police had recently deployed, Shipp said.
Police decided not to pursue the truck but located it a few minutes later after it was abandoned near the state Highway 500 eastbound off ramp, Shipp said. The truck had two damaged tires.
David Van Brown was located in a nearby bush with the keys to the U-Haul, Shipp said. He was arrested nearly 20 minutes after the initial stop on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and two counts of second-degree theft.
The other suspect remains at large.
