Vancouver police have identified Brian C. Toombs, 28, as the man arrested after a stabbing Friday evening in the Wildwood neighborhood.

The victim is his mother, 57-year-old Sonya L. Toombs. She remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, according to a media release from the Vancouver Police Department.

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Friday afternoon, Brian Toombs called 911 to report that his mother tried to attack him so he stabbed her with scissors, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian. He believed she was dead. The caller said they had gotten into an argument over money.

According to the media release, officers responded to the residence in the 13100 block of Southeast Angus Street. They detained the male caller without incident and located Sonya Toombs unconscious in the living room. She had multiple stab wounds around her face and neck.
